The ‘Power in Me’ Scholarship

Once per year in the month of May, Durham Black Educators’ Network (DBEN) in partnership with Durham District School Board (DDSB) will award a graduating Grade 12 student a scholarship in the amount of $1,000.

The scholarship will be awarded to a Grade 12 student of the Black Diaspora (from Caribbean/African decent) who is pursuing post-secondary education.

  • The committee will seek students who demonstrate quality of character and leadership.
  • Preference will be given to a candidate who is the first generation to attend post-secondary in their family.

Applications must be submitted by the last Thursday in March to the selection committee. The selection committee will receive the applications, determine the recipient and present the award at a reception in May each year as part of the Activating Success Student Awards night.
