The ‘Power in Me’ Scholarship

Once per year in the month of May, Durham Black Educators’ Network (DBEN) in partnership with Durham District School Board (DDSB) will award a graduating Grade 12 student a scholarship in the amount of $1,000.

Eligibility:
The scholarship will be awarded to a Grade 12 student of the Black Diaspora (from Caribbean/African decent) who is pursuing post-secondary education.

Criteria:

  • The committee will seek students who demonstrate quality of character and leadership.
  • Preference will be given to a candidate who is the first generation to attend post-secondary in their family.

 Applications:
Applications must be submitted by the last Thursday in March to the selection committee. The selection committee will receive the applications, determine the recipient and present the award at a reception in May each year as part of the Activating Success Student Awards night.
