Message from the Chair

Eleanor McIntosh On behalf of the Durham Black Educators’ Network (DBEN) executive, I would like to welcome you to our website. The site offers visitors an overview of our vision optimize the educational experiences of Black educators, students, parents and community partners.  You will find many resources to help you become connected to the network and the role that we continue to serve for our stakeholders across the Durham region.  The pages will inform you of our ongoing activities and also initiatives that will be forthcoming.  The continuous evolution of the technology environment makes this endeavor a necessary part of the growth of our organization.

We are concerned with the education of the whole child.  When a student and their family feel valued and included as part of the classroom and school community, then there is an overall improvement in student achievement and well being.  It is our responsibility to ensure that we help in building the skills in our youth so that they may be empowered as leaders of the future.  Through engagement in authentic learning experiences this may be achieved.

It is our belief that if we walk together and work in collaboration, the strength of our collective voices can be the vehicle for change. We encourage your feedback about our site.  Please feel free to share your thoughts by contacting us.

Thank you for visiting,

Eleanor McIntosh
