DBEN Educator's Award Recipient

Andrea Walters is an elementary school principal who transferred to the DDSB in 2009 to be closer to home and to make a difference in the lives of Black youths and their families in the Durham Region. She has served as Vice-Chair of DBEN from 2018 to 2019. Andrea was an instrumental part of the growth and success of the DBEN And Still We Rise Elementary Conference for many years. She has been on the writing team for the Africentric Perspectives in the Classroom, the Compendium of Action for Black Student Success, and the DDSB’s Accommodating Creed in Schools. She is currently a mentor for the Administrator’s Black Caucus of Ontario. Andrea has been nominated twice for Outstanding Principal by her school community.
